Since Rawah Ranch’s inception in the late 1940s, the property’s credo has been “rough it all day, fluff it all night.” The 240-acre dude ranch—located 20 miles south of the Wyoming border, in Colorado—allows no more than 32 guests at a time to stay at its eight log cabins and four lodge rooms. August 23 through September 26 is Rawah’s adults-only period, when visitors can appreciate the Rocky Mountains’ alpine splendor in a quieter environment.
Husband-and-wife outfitter team Pat and Melanie Timmins host guided hikes and fly-fishing on the property’s 60 miles of private waters. Rawah also offers backcountry rides on horseback that can occupy visitors for days. Traversing the surrounding 76,000-acre Rawah Wilderness Area, all-day tours take riders across streams and over 11,000-foot-wide passes to encounter an abundance of earthly marvels such as sparkling cascades, snow-capped peaks, sandstone cliffs, and grazing wildlife—all amidst a cloak of aspens.
